I watched both this weekend. I didn’t expect the theme of releasing naked pics would be the theme of both.
I liked revenge porn a lot. Release of pics by an ex affects the mom and daughter and their current boyfriends. It is fairly straightforward story without much suspense or surprises once the culprit is revealed. Can’t say I was ever that angry with a breakup but I’ve never had relationships that last long periods of my life. But it explores selfish behavior hurting others and zoom worked well enough for the conversations between characters.
Smithtown is the more star studded broadway cast reading of four connected monologues about an unintended release of photos. The third monologue intrigued me about journalists response to documenting vs helping (time stands still raised the issue to my attention on the reading in December). Interesting but not very engaging story since it’s monologues. But I know many are fans of monologues and might like this a lot. The four actors did a fine job.
I’m being vague because I don’t want to give plots away.
Since I’ve never taken nude pics of myself, I’ll never face these issues, but it is an issue for gen x and younger. It did make me wish I did have some nude pics when I was 25, full head of hair and thin. But maybe I’m better off not remembering my lost youth.
