To me, if there's ONE role in the canon that is entirely, 100 percent appropriate to be sung by an opera singer, and benefits greatly from such a voice, it's that one, because of the style of music that Loesser wrote for the character of a middle-aged Italian man living in the early/middle years of the 20th century -- a character who I think would have opera in his blood.
