I'm sorry, I just don't agree with this type of argument -- that if one does not connect with or enjoy a work or believe the artist(s) achieved what they set out to do -- that one does not "get" the concept. One can understand the concept and still disagree that the execution was effective or moving.
After watching the show, I'm just taken aback that this was what was getting such breathless reactions for years.
It's Hallmark-level profundity about identity presented by an impressive illusionist. I can certainly imagine that it would be more involving in an intimate space with just 100 or so other people, but at the end of the day, I can't enjoy this just as I can't be swept away by "motivational speakers." |
