I saw the 2003 ACW at the Matrix Theatre in LA, with Ruth Williamson as Cora. It had a slightly revised book: creating two acts out of three (Act I ends with the title song), and putting the focus of the show on Fay. It was uneven, though I admired Michael Michetti’s direction (one of our best SoCal directors; loved his STUPID FUCKING BIRD at Boston Court, Pasadena, classics at A Noise Within, and several musicals for Reprise!). They had Sondheim and Laurents’ permission for their revisions.
I was just glad for the chance to see it.
