I think that, when the theaters reopen, it will be time for a revival of “Let ‘Em Eat Cake,” the unsuccessful 1933 sequel to “Of Thee I Sing.” (There’s a double recording from the 1980s with Larry Kert, Jack Gilford, and Maureen McGovern.)
In the sequel, President Wintergreen loses re-election, the Supreme Court refuses to throw out the vote, so he engineers a coup to regain power. We know nothing like that could ever really happen, but... |
