| Encores! Inside the Revival | Love Life episode released today featuring Kate Baldwin, John Edwards, Director Victoria Clark and more New York, NY/February 24, 2021 - New York City Center today premiered the third installment of the video series Encores! Inside the Revival, featuring a look inside the creative process behind the Encores! revival of Love Life directed by Victoria Clark. Originally scheduled for the 2020 Encores! season, this production was cancelled on the afternoon of the run-through as the news broke that theaters across New York City were being shut down to contain the coronavirus pandemic. A year later, Clark, Encores! Music Director Rob Berman, and Consulting Producer for Musical Theater, and previous Encores! Artistic Director Jack Viertel revisit the production and discuss their process of imagining Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner's rarely seen 1948 musical. The episode also features performances from the cast of the 2020 production, including Kate Baldwin, Brandon Burks, Jonathan Christopher, John Edwards, John-Michael Lyles , Heath Saunders, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. Together, they explore how Love Life resonates more than ever, as its values, social satire, and activism comment on the American dream. While this Encores! production hit an unprecedented setback in its return to the stage-City Center is dedicated to presenting Love Life in a future season following the re-opening of our beloved theater. All Encores! Inside the Revival episodes stream for free on City Center's YouTube channel and website at NYCityCenter.org. Encores! Inside the Revival is produced in partnership with Juan L. Espinal. The first installment of the series, which premiered in November of 2020, features Emmy and Tony Award-winning artist Billy Porter (FX's Pose) who takes audiences through his reimagining of the 1997 Tony-nominated musical The Life, along with performances from Grammy-nominated artists Ledisi and Mykal Kilgore. In the second episode, Tony Award-winning director Kenny Leon and book adaptor Lydia Diamond give audiences an up-close look at the percussive heart of The Tap Dance Kid with the help of choreographer Jared Grimes and original Broadway cast member Dulé Hill ( The West Wing). |
