| It seems to me that ending Act I with the title song is not a great idea, but most later productions don't want to (or simply can't) have two big ballets so it really doesn't make any sense at all to do it in the original three acts. If it's being done in two acts, I think you need an intermission after ”Simple.” It does give you a rather longer second act than first, but I think we really need a break after ”Simple.” And without an intermission, I would think that the change in tone with the entrance of the Lady From Lourdes must be tough to make work. But I am glad you got to see it, and I know that the production was well-received. |
