Ben Folds. He's a brilliant storyteller and lyricist; his music is wonderful-- tuneful and wrenching and memorable. At one point I would have been advocating for Randy Newman, but not for a project like FAUST-- I'd want him to do something more earthbound, intimate.
But Folds is a genius and could absolutely do this.
And while I'm at it, will say that I just re-watched Ted Demme's wonderful 1996 film BEAUTIFUL GIRLS and thought "THIS is something that could be a great musical". Maybe this is something good for Folds....? |
