| Yes, I believe you are correct. I don't think Brustein cited any specific pieces of staging in his Forum review (it is reprinted in his book Seasons of Discontent) and if he did, there was no reason to credit Jerome Robbins, since he was not the named choreographer of the show. Brustein could certainly be snotty, and he was dismissive of Sondheim's score. But he kind of made up for it years later by complementing his music for The Frogs and raving about Passion. I don't believe an artist should hold a grudge against a critic for expressing an unfavorable view of his or her work. Making judgements can be unpleasant but it is the critic's job. |
