Hi there - just saw this note and If all right, would like to ring in. The model that i constructed is quite similar to the one above. I began the program at the very beginning of the pandemic and now we are on show number seven. As I have been transparent about this from the beginning, I think I can shed a little light on what might be happening. In my case, I organized the shows for the theatres to sell at zero cost, so no standard advances, no up front payments etc. Two theatres offered to do so of the over 60 that we have supported. As a theatre sells its ticket, 50% of the proceeds go the theatre before anything. then 30% of the remainder is given directly to artists in need (which is different than operating costs to uphold theatre orgs) and various scholarships that directly affect, young, and various BIPOC artists and others. Then the remaining 20% serves to continue producing new presentations, which includes production. There is not a single person in the entire operation who donates their time, though many would be happy to. Some even wish for their fees to be donated to arts organizations, in which case I ask for the artist to do so directly, but it is of extreme importance that everyone be paid, as part of their permanent job with my company, or as a particular hire. Even children who appear briefly are paid. It is important. This is work, this is what we do. It was important to find a model that would work for everyone, and allow for work to continue in these complicated times. I would suspect that the above production is following the same or similar path, which is not a money making operation at the expense of talent, but in fact a way for talent to be employed, and earn, however large or small the fees are.
