It looks like at least in two scenes Merman's outfit is meant to pop against the rest of the ensemble. But the colors in the film are so faded it's dificult to get a sense of what the color palette was.
The clips give you a bit of an idea of what Merman's stage rapport with her Broadway audience was like, slightly deadpan but conspiratorial I'd say.
Some great dancers. The show's have your cake and ridicule it too with the Indian characters is hard to take.
