True enough. I do wonder what the difference was between THE INHERITANCE on Broadway and in London. It was a sold out hit at the Young Vic, and when it transferred to the West End. One theory I have had is that we already in the last 12 months had revivals of ANGELS IN AMERICA, BOYS IN THE BAND and TORCH SONG. Only BOYS IN THE BAND recouped. And now comes a two part play that Broadway hadn't really heard about. A Big financial and time commitment to see it. Maybe it was marketing, maybe it was a two-parter - but during its 18 weeks on Broadway it never had even one break-even week at the box office. I fear a lot was word of mouth. Most people I know liked Part 2 better than Part 1, but many never saw Part 2 because Part 1 didn't grab them. It also, IMHO, didn't have the stregnth of language and plot and intent that the three other recent gay-important plays on Broadway. And this is four big Broadway shows requiring 6 evenings of attendance - that only deal with gay men (and other political issues). I think it was too much product for the market at that time - all were very fine productions. People vote with their wallets.
