The issues related to race, and especially America’s black-and-white paradigm is by far more timely and in fashion than the AIDS phenomenon, gay liberation, and English literature. So The Slave Play will win. And people talked about it.
Besides...
As much as I loved The inheritance when I read it in script-form, I found it erred on the side of being trite in performance. Not exactly sure why. Perhaps....there was too much of Paul Sills in the “playing” of it. Not “dark” enough. Lit and staged like a comedy on that white platform. |
