"The score is not the problem..." Just want to echo this: the Jule Styne/Bob Merrill score is absolutely terrific. I treasure the CD. A virtuoso display by the star, too.
I just question your wording about Lansbury turning down FOLLIES because neither of the leads being what "she would have needed at this stage of her career." Did the already(recently)two Tony winning star "need" a star vehicle. Maybe she wanted or was entitled to one. Maybe she preferred the range that the score of PRETTYBELLE afforded her. |
