| I wonder if Lansbury had been in the show would the balanc have been thrown off by her star wattage post MAME...Alexis Smith was not a huge star in her movie years(much like Lucille Ball in the same period) Dorothy Collins was a TV name, and Gene Nelson popular in films but not Gene Kelly. McMartin was probably best known from SWEET CHARITY onstage and film. I would think Yvonne DeCarlo was the best known name in FOLLIES more from THE MUNSTERS than her film work(when I saw FOLLIES as a youth, she was the only one in it I knew) Lansbury's smash in MAME was equal to Streisand in FUNNY GIRL...she may have wanted more to sing than Phyllis does(I think she also could have played Sally) PRETTYBELLE is a fun album...When I'm Drunk I'm Beautiful especially |
