...if it could be proven that the arts organization was aware that the money was dirty... Thanks, that's what a lawyer acquaintance of mine just told me and I'm sure that would be very difficult to prove. If it was easy global capitalism would end in a minute.

in the case of the Met (I can't speak to any of the others) the money had been pledged but never received (actually I think a portion was but at the "giving level" that gets entire tiers named after you). Some of you may recall that a former president (of our country, no less) made lots of pledges (not to the Met I feel confident) that were never fulfilled.
