Just watched and enjoyed again; decided to see whatever had become of Topol. He is alive and well in Israel at age 85 - I was astonished at his apparent vigor and had not realized what a young man he was during filming.
In any event, I will be interested to see if a rumored remake ever occurs. Anyone heard anything?
Chaim Topol also toured with Fiddler on the Roof for years as well as stints on Broadway and the West End (not to mention his runs in the original Tel Aviv and London companies BEFORE he made the film).
I expect Theodore Bikel probably played the most performances (a record once held by Paul Lipson).
