| ... Wiser minds might have prevailed in thinking, once that Oprah Winfrey interview was scheduled, that this might not be the ideal time to drop a candy-colored musical about the royal family of England, however critically it might (or might not, I have no idea) look at them. And now that the Meghan and Harry interview proved to be such an event, scoring blockbuster ratings and sending the establishment over there into a tizzy of damage control, I have to imagine this property has become something of a hot potato. I’m sure it’s very sympathetic to Diana, obviously, and maybe people will appreciate it more than even a month ago, due to certain parallels between her and Meghan. At the same time, if they schedule it right away it’ll look like a cynical response to the interview, and be judged as such, regardless of the show’s quality. My suspicion is that they wait a month or two and shift the show’s streaming premiere into the summer, after the current semi-scandal has died down, closer to when the Broadway show itself might (or might not) reopen, and in any case, closer to when the next season of The Crown would likely premiere at the end of the year. |
