Where does the other 80% go?

Don't tell me "expenses" because this is "net" proceeds which, by definition, means after expenses.

I know this is a bit out of time, but let me offer a couple of thoughts. First, press releases are not written by accountants and it is entirely possible they mean something other than how you are interpreting it. (And even with accountants, "net" means different things, e.g., the net grosses we are all familiar with, the net proceeds available to producers and investors, etc etc etc.) Second, it could also be that some/most of the proceeds are going to be donated to other charities. In saying all of this, I emphasize that I know nothing. :-)

...I'm not going to begrudge theatre artists and producers for earning a buck. The idea that every single theatre related production must now be 100% charitable might be a bit unfair, especially one year into the pandemic. I mean, we certainly don't expect this of film/TV productions. These could viable secondary revenue streams beyond the pandemic, too. The pop singer Dua Lipa had a very successful live stream production a few months ago. It was so successful that her management said these types of livestream events would likely be part of their album promotion strategies even after normal arena concert tours can resume. If theatre/events producers can show that these types of events can be profitable, what better time to give it a whirl?
