| Laura Collins-Hughes has an intriguing op-ed in the NYT dated March 14, 2021 about how “the American theater has no towering figure even attempting to lead it through crisis, the way Andrew Lloyd Webber has in Britain.” She says she has a “wildly charismatic advocate” in mind, indeed several advocates who are big celebrities who like to prove their bona fides from time to time on the stage. I don’t know whom she means and what she’d like them to do (other than to sign on “to do a play at a regional theater closest to where they grew up.”) Anyone know who she’s talking about? |
