Broadway Podcast Network - economics?
Posted by: Drew288 01:01 pm EDT 03/14/21

I am loving so much of the Broadway Podcast Network's content, from relatively known folks like Ilana Levine's "Little Known Facts", Ben Rimalower's "Broken Records", Josh Lamon's "Josh Swallows Broadway" and the star-packed soap parody "As the Curtain Rises" but also things with unknown (to me anyway) folks like the excellent Carrie podcast "Out for Blood" and the Sunset Blvd one called "The Sunset Project". However, occasionally my guilt reflex kicks in. Why is all of this content free? I just started listening to Jessica Vosk and Jennifer Simard's true crime podcast and it seems clear that while they love the subject and what they are doing with it, they were likely motivated by the pandemic-fuelled theatre shutdown to take on the project.

I hear the ads throughout. Is that enough to sustain the economic model? Are these talented folks being paid well to host these shows? (Not to mention the tech and producing teams needed to pull all of this off remotely?) I feel like I should be paying for this content!
