| A THREE-PART ONLINE ONE-ON-ONE META-MEMOIR REACHES ITS ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON MARCH 17 Written and directed by Edward Einhorn Performed/originally developed by Yvonne Roen Tickets $25; On demand via Skype Reservations can be made at performancefor1@gmail.com or by visiting untitledtheater.com Performance for One is a one-on-one performance event, a meta-memoir originally created as in person experience in art galleries, bookstores, and street corners in less served neighborhoods throughout Manhattan. When Covid made that impossible, it became a Skype performance, and it is now a half-hour, three-part on demand experience. March 17 will mark a year of performance of the online version of the show. All three parts are written in first person, and they consist of a mixture of remembrances of the author’s family and musings on the nature of the author/performer/audience member relationship. They are also lightly interactive, to establish a rapport between audience and performer. In its online form, it has been praised as “An unusually intimate experience, and a lovely way to feel a personal connection through theater.” (Adam Feldman, Time Out New York) and “Potent...I liked that this show acknowledges a theater audience is not passive. We’re not mere vessels being casually filled by the art. Our brains are whirring. Our emotions are being churned. Things are happening in the audience–sometimes positive, sometimes negative. But it is an active practice.” (Nicole Serratore, Exeunt). Written and directed by Edward Einhorn, (The Marriage of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein, Critic’s Pick, The New York Times). Other plays by Edward Einhorn include Doctors Jane and Alexander at HERE, The Neurology of the Soul at ART/NY Theatres; The God Projekt (cowritten with Kevin Augustine) at La MaMa, and adaptations of Paul Auster’s City of Glass at The New Ohio, Jack London’s The Iron Heel at Judson Church, and Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? at 3LD. Performed by Yvonne Roen, a veteran member of the company seen in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Rudolf II, The Velvet Oratorio, The Iron Heel, Money Lab, and Doctors Jane & Alexander. Untitled Theater Company No. 61 is a Theater of Ideas: scientific, political, philosophical, and above all theatrical. For 25 years they have been producing independent theater in New York, collaborating with venues such as La MaMa, HERE, The New Ohio, ART/New York Theatres, 3LD, The Brick, Judson Church, and other downtown spaces. They have also maintained a durable partnership with the Czech Republic, originally established though their work with former President Vaclav Havel during their 2006 Havel Festival. Recent UTC61 work have been Critic's Picks in The New York Times, The Village Voice, and Time Out New York. |
