| Since the original recording was first issued in 1946, 78 rpm records would have been the only option for the original release, and those albums tended to have less material than LPs because of the multiple records necessary, not to mention the severe limitations for each side of each 78rpm record. That accounts for the fact that cast albums originally released on 78s generally tended to have considerably less material than those first issued during the LP era, just as albums first issued during the LP era tended to be shorter than those first issued during the CD era. I assume that's the main reason why the ST. LOUIS WOMAN album is so short, although I believe some cast albums originally released as 78s were at least a little bit longer. | |
