I almost prefer the imperfect recording to the more "sophisticated" NT Live and other broadcasts.
I wish I liked the play more. I'd seen it in L.A. with Nielsen and the lovely late Mark Blum, Christine Ebersole and David Hull. All fine performers but it felt like heavy lifting. In this original cast I thought Sigourney had the right Durang energy (from 40 years of experience) but even that didn't always elevate the material. |
