This NY Times profile of Simon, published just prior to the show's Broadway opening, says:
"Anita Gillette came into the play as Jennie after another actress was released from the part. 'I knew it was not working out right away, and so the second day of rehearsal we were desperate. I mean we auditioned hundreds of girls, hundreds. And there are so many girls here in Los Angeles who spend so much time in television that they forget how to act.'” |
