It does say it’s the actual London production, directed by Sam Mendes (as I’m sure you noticed) -
but I highly doubt that the original UK cast, after 2 runs in London, a run at the Park Avenue Armory, and (I believe) a few previews in NYC, would do another US pre-Broadway tryout. I also find it hard to believe they would bring the show to Broadway -without- that original cast, if at all possible.
So my guess is either a) just as Scott Rudin has announced The Music Man will begin in December, we’ll shortly hear that a NY run of Lehman will open around the same time, to run December thru March, and then the SF production will be used to launch the tour with a different cast...
Or, very possibly, if due to other commitments they know they can’t get the originals back until at least mid-late-2022, the SF run, and possibly others to follow, would be used to keep the show’s buzz in the public eye until such time as the Broadway production can definitely happen (as well as, potentially, use it as a testing ground for US actors should any or all of the UK cast not be able to return to do it on Broadway).
But after all of the build-up for the last few years, and with most of the 2020 run having been sold out even before they began performances, one way or another it’s impossible to believe that The Lehman Trilogy will not be coming back to New York, on Broadway, the way it’s always been meant to.
