Yuh-jung Youn Oscar chances will benefit from the #OscarsSoWhite campaign from a few years ago. That stung the Academy very badly. As well it should. They responded by diversifying their membership and, as a result, we have the most racially diverse field of nominees in history.

Yuh-jung Youn chances will be further supported by the sudden awareness of anti-Asian discrimination in this country. I know it’s a terribly cynical this to suggest, but I’m quite confident that the chances of her winning will be advanced by Academy voters wanting to right their history. And they get to do so while this country is confronted with its history of anti-Asian discrimination.

Yuh-jung Youn Oscar Oscar chances are elevated because she gave one of the finest performances, not just of the year, but I think recent memory.

And, frankly, we’ve seen Glenn Close give this kind of campy performance before. This is no Garp. This is no Fatal Attraction. And this is nowhere NEAR Dangerous Liaisons. Those three of her now 8 nominations are her best work, all Oscar-worthy. Awarding her for this tripe, and in this category, feels like an insult not just to Ms. Close, but her co-nominees and our collective intelligence.
