| True, the Academy has a history of overlooking Asians, but they've made great strides to diversify in recent years. Following last year's trifecta for "Parasite" - including the first ever Best Picture win by a foreign language film - I think that we can give the Academy credit for the work they are doing and safely say that they recognize Asian excellence. And I think we can also say that Glenn Close is deeply deserving of an Oscar for something, even if it's this pandering garbage. Whether she should or will beat Youn (and I haven't seen the film yet) is an open question, but if Close does win, that doesn't necessarily mean the Academy is acting on a tendency to snub Asians. I'm generally going to be rooting for the East Asians out of solidarity, and I cringe at "Hillbilly Elegy" being an Oscar winner, but in this case, I'm really, really hoping Glenn Close gets to win an Oscar. And then she can tell Olivia how sorry she is ;-) |
