It was only last year (2020), when 19 out of the 20 slots for Oscar-nominated actors went to white actors. Cynthia Erivo was the only black.

And while ''Parasite'' won Best Picture, none of its Korean actors were nominated, even though they won the prize for SAG Ensemble.

In recent years, the Academy snubbed Hong Chau, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Shuzhen Zhao ... tho' they were nominated by other awards.

But this year DID mark a BIG change: 9 of the 20 slots for Oscar-nominated actors went to actors of color, which is a remarkable record.

What's more, Lee Isaac Chung's ''Minari'' is up for Best Picture, and TWO of its actors, Steven Yeun and Yuh-jung Youn, are nominated.

(And to bring this back to theater: Yeun will be appearing the the film version of Stephen Karam's Tony-winning ''The Humans.'')
