One thing I thought was interesting was how they addressed each other. I knew that Susan Stroman goes by "Stro," but several people called John Weidman, "Weidman" rather than "John." And several people called Karen Ziemba "K.Z." Does Weidman go by "Weidman" typically in real life? And does Ziemba go by "K.Z."? Or were they just doing that because of calling Stroman "Stro"?
Nicknames develop often with no real intent - they just happen. I have endured several nicknames over time, but the silliest one was back in elementary school, and it was "Fin." The punchline of that was when we'd have filmstrips (remember those?) in Spanish class, and the final slide would say "fin" and everyone would go crazy pointing to me and saying my nickname. :-)
A few of my adult theatre buddies call me "Johnny," but no one else really ever does.(My first name is Jon, for anyone that doesn't know. In fact, "Fin" came from a mispronunciation of the last syllable of "Jonathan.") It was very funny one summer when I was working with one of those friends on a teen theatre project, and the kids also started calling me Johnny. I nipped that in the bud and said that only the adults could call me that. :-) |
