Perhaps because I only saw the televised version, I found Audra's imitation to be simultaneously flawless and lifeless.
And I don't think Cynthia made "no attempt at Aretha." She caught the changes in her voice in the 30+ years of Aretha's career depicted in the series, and the transition from Cynthia to Aretha at the Grammys in 1998 was seamless. |
