Again, no one is calling for that level of, for lack of a better word, "niceness" in dramatic stories, nor is anyone calling to cancel "Funny Girl" (not that many people below the age of 40 even know it exists).
Surely we can have a reasonable conversation about body shaming without getting into "What If" scenarios that are steeped in outrage rather than critical thinking. The point you brought up elsewhere in the thread about Fanny's Jewishness being a problem tells a much more satisfying story than a throwaway joke about her being flat chested, and the meanness serves a higher purpose as well. |
