I think it was extremely challenging to film Garland at this time. There were extensive delays do it her chemical dependencies, weight fluctuation and illness. Also, Warner decided to use the new CinemaScope technique after they had already shot a lot of footage. They had to reshoot many scenes. So assembling a film and keeping continuity was far more difficult. Another Garland film, Summer Stock shows Judy at her movie plumpest preparing for the big show. Then, all of a sudden she appears to have shed a considerable amount of weight between her dressing room and the stage to sing GET HAPPY! Do we object? I don't.
