| Just saw a press release bearing the sad news. He had quite an unusual career, writing the books for Nine, Phantom, and High Society, but also enjoying critical successes with plays such as Wings. And also the author of the unforgettably titled Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feeling So Sad. | |

|
| Yep. With the unusual trio of Burt Lancaster, Teri Polo, and Charles Dance (as the Phantom). Tony Richardson directed. | |

| I remember that miniseries, it was a great telling of the story that felt immediate and compelling (is what I thought at 11 years of age). But it wasn't actually a miniseries of the musical; rather, Kopit used his stage script to create the screenplay, which I believe only had diegetic opera singing. | |

| Correct. Not a musical but the same plot based on Kopit's book. It also has the distinction to be the only (out of dozens) Phantom based films to actually film at the Paris Opera House. Dance is in fine form as the Phantom, even if I've never really enjoyed Kopit's decision to make the Phantom sassy and sarcastic. |

| I was a big fan of his work. Wings is especially extraordinary, but I also loved Dad Poor Dad, and Indians. And I think his book to Nine is beautiful and does everything the book of that musical needed to do. (i've still never see Phantom or High Society) An under appreciated writer, if you ask me. RIP |
