I agree, it's a lazy and desperate attempt to connect Follies to current shows, and it isn't necessary.

And also i think it's clear ultimately "I'm Still Here" is a book song about Carlotta's life, and not her Follies number. She would have been way too young in the Follies to do that kind of song/lyric, and it is not a Follies kind of number, and just because she starts her monologue with "I had a follies number" (or whatever it was) doesn't mean the song she starts singing IS that number.

Absolutely.

Of course, it's completely clear to anyone with a functioning brain. Can you believe that a piece like this was published in The New York Times? I mean, we all make mistakes, but wouldn't you think and hope that a publication like The New York Times would have editors, fact-checkers, and proof readers to prevent such writing from passing into the publication?

Of course originally Carlotta was given what could have been her Follies number, Can That Boy Foxtrot. They concluded it wasn’t right. I read recently that Goldman suggested that she needed to be given a song about survival, which was the inspiration for the replacement song.
