***And also i think it's clear ultimately "I'm Still Here" is a book song about Carlotta's life, and not her Follies number. She would have been way too young in the Follies to do that kind of song/lyric, and it is not a Follies kind of number, and just because she starts her monologue with "I had a follies number" (or whatever it was) doesn't mean the song she starts singing IS that number.***
Of course, it's completely clear to anyone with a functioning brain. Can you believe that a piece like this was published in The New York Times? I mean, we all make mistakes, but wouldn't you think and hope that a publication like The New York Times would have editors, fact-checkers, and proof readers to prevent such writing from passing into the publication? |
