Health insurance is provided by the union, but the item that I think was being pointed to is that the producers are expected to pay for medications related to Covid (there was nothing in the article that mentioned insurance). I believe getting the flu wouldn't generally be a workplace injury, but in this case I think it's reasonable to make the exception.

But also, even in normal years, the flu rages through the Broadway community because performers are routinely packed together in dressing rooms and in the wings, are on the receiving end of other people's projectile spit, and are touching or being touched by each other or on surfaces that others have touched quite often in the course of a show... so, perhaps we should start treating all illnesses of this sort as workplace injuries.
