If Neil is a character, I'd go with Andy Karl.

I despise Sweet Caroline but I'm fairly certain it will be used at the end of the show. I wonder if the rest will be worth sitting through. They certainly have assembled a talented artistic team for a bio-jukebox musical. Do they just need the money given the year we've had?

I'm not sure why it would have to be at the end of the show specifically - it could be anywhere. (Or it could appear *again* at the end.) But, wherever it is, I do hope that they realize that Boston audiences are used to participating in the song (for better or worse lol). :-)

Well either at the end or appear at the end again. I just meant that it will be at the end so people will be singing it as they walk out of the theater.

In Boston anyway, but if they go with “Sweet Caroline” as a reprise, encore or “mega-mix” They may have to rethink it for Broadway once producers notice Yankee fans rushing up the aisle before the curtain comes down to “beat the traffic” lol

A lot of these shows have attracted some very eminent names in recent seasons. Dominique Morrisseau did the book for Ain't Too Proud. Lynn Nottage is writing MJ, the Michael Jackson musical. Katori Hall cowrote Tina. Colman Domingo had a had in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. I think these serious playwrights consider these jobs as works made for hire; it's enough to do a slick, professional job and if the show is a hit, they can sit back and enjoy the royalties. The money could finance the writing of many, many plays for Signature Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, et al.

Maybe Ken did a focus group like he did before he changed the good name “Garage Band” to the blah “Getting the Band Back Together”

I'd vote for HOT AUGUST NIGHT or I AM I SAID

It seems split on using a song vs generic title like summer, Tina or the cher show Ain’t to proud, beautiful and margaritaville are song titled ones. Britney Spears is her song name but not a biographical musical. MJ wisely changed to his name instead of don’t stop until you get enough.

"Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show"

Some creative person could probably shoe horn many of Neil Diamond's hits into a book musical about a travelling salvation show with a sexy charismatic Brother Love. Sort of a Neil Diamond "Leap of Faith," but better because it's, hey now, Neil Diamond! Holly holy!

I agree 100%. I love "I Am I Said" as a title for it.

And just typing that reminds me of my all-time favorite rendition of that song, and sorry but it is not the songwriter.

See below.

Your post inspired me to visualize Neil Diamond as Morris Ritz singing "Think Big Rich". Probably wouldn't work. Maybe "Walk Into Heaven".
