WSJ: Terry Teachout on OUR TOWN, a book by Howard Sherman and an exhibit of Hirschfeld drawings
Posted by: TheHarveyBoy 07:40 am EDT 04/07/21

In today’s Wall Street Journal, Terry Teachout reviews a new book about 12 productions of OUR TOWN by Howard Sherman and an online exhibit of Hirschfeld drawings of the play over the years. Made me want to experience both.

The 1969 production of OUR TOWN, which i saw in Los Angeles, was the first professional production of a play that I saw and to this day I remember the emotional devastation and resonance of it. A great cast in a great show, which i was so lucky to experience. I look forward to reading Teachout's book.

Teachout's Cromer rave is hard to understand. We saw the Cromer the first performance after he left the cast and hated the show. We were so disappointed. Curious if anyone went back after Cromer left and can report on both. Thanks.
