|I think people have a very short-sighted and ignorant view of the realities of producing on Broadway especially the kind of stuff Rudin does. A LOT of Rudin's broadway output would have been only done at Non-Profits if it hadn't been him there doing it.
The combo of someone with money and resources, prestige, major success in film, and great taste in theater PLUS a passion and commitment to it.... this is very very rare. Producing on broadway is incredibly risky and I think it's far more rare than people want to believe that producers with similar motivation and resources and taste are going to exist to step in. There are a hand full, already doing it, and hopefully there are others that are going to want to step up to the plate who haven't yet.
I am not excusing or forgiving the abuse and toxicity, and I'm not even suggesting we put up with it in exchange for what he brings to the table as a producer. But if a discussion or assessment is being had, we have to be realistic about how rare someone like Rudin is as a *Broadway* producer.
