I feel certain this is googleable if you want more, but my recollection of the story is that, back before he was the monster we now see before us, he was a lowly assistant for the producer Kermit Bloomgarden (many memorable shows including the original Music Man) who had a leg amputated. Somehow young Scotty ended up picking the leg up somewhere (in my mind, it would have not been in a bag and would have been from somewhere in Brooklyn) and bringing it back to the office. I can't remember if this indignity was offered by Rudin as some sort of justification for his own behavior later, but I guess it will be fodder for whatever shrink he is supposedly going to see now. If you find more details, please post (including corrections to my recollection).
