All these terms getting bandied about. If there's no direct reference to him being white, why do you say that he's supposed to be a "very specific type in terms of race?" Also, I don't see much evidence that Jamie is religious. I think you meant ethnicity, not religion - which I assume is what you're saying by referring to "cultural background." In terms of economic status, I hope to god you're not telling me that a black man can't have the same status.

That's still "blackface." Just as a white actor playing an Asian character is now referred to as Yellowface. It's not about the literal nature of stage makeup, it's about the appropriation.
