I'm generally aware of that whole situation, but I've never researched the specifics. Do you know if, in the original version of the show, Jamie was in fact a composer/lyricist rather than a novelist? There's no reference to that in the Wikipedia entry, FWIW.
As to your comments about RENT, I strongly suspect that SOME people felt that way about the casting of Mark in that production, even if no one ever said them to you :-)
