|And just for anyone who wasn't around then, THE LAST FIVE YEARS was originally scheduled to be produced by Lincoln Center Theater, but, after all the mishigas, LCT withdrew and it was produced commercially off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre.
I'm not certain if they withdrew from producing it specifically because of the legal issues or if it was just that the delay caused by the legal issues required them to fill that hole in their schedule with something else and Brown or others involved decided to take the show elsewhere.
Given the show's post-original run success, I wonder if Lincoln Center would have been a better path originally? I imagine it would have been at the Newhouse and the publicity and word of mouth for a well-received run there might have propelled it into a stronger commercial off-Broadway run or even Broadway in a smaller theatre. The run at the Minetta Lane was well reviewed, I think, but the show never really caught on with audiences and the original run was probably shorter than might be expected for a piece that has enjoyed such popularity.
