The old PR standard was to usually release such things on Fridays so that they appear in the little-read Saturday editions. By releasing his statement on Saturday, it appeared in the highly-read Sunday edition of The Post. Even worse, since the Sunday "Arts and Style" section is printed in advance, The Post placed the article in the "A" section (the main national news section).
Of course, all of the above applies to the print edition. Once something is published online, it's there forever.
