She had me falling on the floor laughing in 1974 with the PBS broadcast of the Actors Theatre of Louisville’s IN FASHION (available in the Broadway Theatre Archives series). She played the befuddled mother in this musical based on a Feydeau farce, and at one point, is addressed as the Queen of Greenland. So she got a comic solo in which she declared, with all the authority Charlotte Rae commanded—which was considerable—“I am not now, nor have I ever been, the Queen of Greenland. In fact, a map is all I’ve ever seen of Greenland. I have not sworn allegiance to any polar regions, and firmly I disown any claim to any throne.” Then she launched into a fantasy describing what fun it would be to rule Greenland. Comic perfection.
