This was probably talked about when it first came out a little less than a year ago, but this is the Covid era, so time has no meaning. Just thought I'd share a very entertaining streaming recommendation -- the show 'THE GREAT' on Hulu. It's written by Australian playwright and screenwriter Tony McNamara, probably best known for his screenplay (with Deborah Davis) for 2018's The Favourite.
The Great is based upon his play about the rise to power of Catherine the Great. Having never seen the source work, I don't know how closely the Hulu series matches the tone of the play. But, the TV series is an anti-historical/generously fictionalized account of young Catherine's rise to power in Russia. It is a sharply satirical comedy-drama with a uniformly excellent cast of mostly British and Australian actors (though, the lead, Elle Fanning, does a pretty flawless British accent herself, too). It's almost always very funny and occasionally quite dark. It also has a remarkably foul mouthed script -- imagine Veep in 18th century Russia.
Anyway, I figured some of you might enjoy it as well.
