I could tell what you were arguing, Quicheo, and as someone who loves any number of kind, generous and abusive people, I know how true that is.

I especially co-sign on your point #8 and would really love some fulsome discussions on this board about what that -- in practice -- might look like.

p.s. -- I might quibble with just one thing. You think America imagines itself as a classless society? Other than those lies that we told ourselves in the 1950s about ways that the American Dream was lifting everyone up, I can't think of an era in the USA where we weren't very aware of class distinctions. I don't wanna go off on a tangent because that point #8 is what needs discussion! But feel free to layer in more thoughts on this if you think it's vital.
