I know this is not the point you are wishing to make, but Iris is not exactly a known quantity, and except for one duet, neither really is Pearl Fishers. I'm not sure those are great examples.

I don't see the point in "retiring" anything. There may, in the future, always be room for shows that don't seem to fit into our current zeitgeist. Or, they may not ever get produced. But this seems to me to be the theatrical equivalent of book burning, and I think we're headed down a very dangerous path with that.
