All your points may be spot on but oh-so-academic. Herman wrote the song because it was demanded of him after the success of the Dolly number. It is a tremendous number. It works in the show. The orchestrations by Don Pippen are thrilling. The choreography by Onna White builds and builds. And at the center stands the glorious energy of light and star power- Angela Lansbury. If you witnessed the Jerry Herman tribute last year when Ron Raines and a huge orchestra and chorus sang the entire very long number, you have witnessed its power. That said, I don't see a revival in the near future.
